The Hidden Lane Brewery in Glasgow has launched a new e-cargo bike delivery service. Customers can now order two-litre refillable "growlers" to be delivered to their door, which means no packaging as well as environmentally friendly delivery.
The move comes as part of Bike For Good’s e-cargo bike library pilot, which aims to get businesses to switch from vans to cargo or e-cargo bikes.
“Hidden Lane are the first company to take us up on this and it was great to see how keen they are and to engage with a great local business,” said Bike For Good’s Karolis Toleikis.
“It’s organic beer which is important to us and everything they are doing fits in with our ethos – we are delighted to have them on board.”
Hidden Lane Brewery boss Rachel Suttle said: “It’s important to us to do things as sustainably and environmentally friendly as possible, so this opportunity was a no-brainer for us.”
Speaking about why the firm has started offering the refillable growlers, she said: “We are trying to encourage people to opt for the growlers, as that allows us to achieve most in our aim to deliver zero packaging and zero food mile service.
“However, cans are also available for delivery by e-bike which is still a huge improvement on van delivery.
“The beer is all brewed here in the Hidden Lane and bottled into the specially-designed growlers using our filling machine, which purges the bottles before filling meaning the beer can last up to four weeks after delivery.
“We’re excited to be at the forefront of this great initiative and hope many other businesses will sign up with Bike For Good and help make our Dear Green Place even Greener.”
