Ducati’s Urban e-Mobility line of light electric vehicles is being made available in the UK after the Government last week announced that e-scooters would be legalised via the creation of new low-speed, zero-emission vehicle category.
The actual rules and regulations for privately-owned e-scooters are still unknown, but they are expected to remain close to those for the various government-approved hire schemes that have been in operation for the last year or so.
These stipulate a 15.5mph maximum speed – the same as for e-bikes – and electric motors with a maximum continuous power rating of 500W.
BikeBiz reports that Ducati’s latest e-scooter, the Pro III, features a 350W motor and a 468Wh battery. This is available for £799.
The range also includes a £299 model and the fatter-tyred £899 Scrambler Cross E with a 500W motor and 375Wh battery.
The firm’s magnesium folding e-bike, the MG-20, which we reported on last year, will also be available, along with a scrambler version, the SCR-E.
(These are not Ducati’s only e-bikes. The firm has previously collaborated with Italian brand Thok to create an e-MTB, a trekking e-bike and an e-road bike.
Commenting on the Urban e-Mobility line, Rebecca Tyson from retailer Moov Electric said: “It’s hugely exciting to see power brands like Ducati respond to the demand for sustainable transport by moving into the urban mobility sector. The investment in this type of innovation says a lot about the future of personal electric vehicles.
“Ducati has partnered with industry innovator Platum, who are working with Lamborghini and Aprilia on their e-mobility launches, so this range combines the very latest innovation with Ducati’s signature style.
“With prices starting from £299, these brands are a true competitor to existing models and will provide competition to micromobility brands already existing in the UK personal electric transport market.”
