An e-scooter bay in Yeovil has been removed after a resident complained its location had resulted in him having to endure noisy teenagers and cars parked in front of his driveway.

A 12-month trial of Yeovil’s e-scooter hire scheme, operated by Zwings, started last month. Users are obliged to start and finish their journeys at one of 17 parking bays dotted around the town.

Somerset Live reports that one of these parking bays, on the corner of Larkspur Crescent and Larkhill Road, has since been removed after a family complained of the disruption it had caused.

"We were never told they would be putting a bay there,” said Adam Keable. “The council never got in touch with us to tell us.

"I got home from work on Friday night and the white box had already been painted on the pavement right outside my house.

"Since then the scooters have arrived and people have been parking in front of my drive to use them.

"I think they have been driving here and then parking in front of my house to use the scooters and then drive home again.

"Over the weekend there were two cars parked right across the front of my driveway and I had to ask the owners to move one of the cars.

"We have also had groups of teenagers gathering there late in the evening to take it in turns on the scooters and mess around.

"It's a problem because I have young daughters and one of them has a bedroom at the front – it's probably only twenty feet away from the scooter bay."

A spokesperson for South Somerset District Council said the complaint has been addressed and the bay has since been removed.

They added that Zwings would attempt to find an alternate location for the bay with, "informed decisions made based on the demand vs inconvenience caused."

The episode echoes a similar situation in Dundee, where a resident says he is considering legal action over an e-bike docking station installed outside his home.
