The founder of booming drinks business Jimmy's Iced Coffee has said the Tern GSD is the most useful thing he's ever owned, allowing him to ditch his car completely and save plenty of cash on fuel.
Jimmy Cregan, who co-founded Jimmy's Iced Coffee with his sister Suzie Owen in Christchurch, Dorset back in 2010, lusted after a Mercedes C63 Estate car and was more than happy when he finally got the opportunity... but said how the love affair was short-lived when he realised how much damage the £80 a week fuel costs for the 6.2L monster were doing to the planet and his wallet: "I loved the honeymoon period of this car. It was the guiltiest pleasure on the planet, but the affair soon became a little strange and I began to fall out of love with the fuel indicator needle which seemed to fall as fast as the speedometer would rise. I was spending £80 a week on fuel! Added to which, road tax was similar to a uni degree fee and the planet was coughing every time I got in it. That was it. Four years of lusting after this beauty, lead to a four-month love affair. It was short and sweet but the car had to be sold. I needed a more sustainable set of wheels."
Jimmy popped into the London bike shop Fully Charged and was recommended a Tern GSD (which stands for Get Stuff Done) and was blown away by the load-carrying ability which allowed him to sell the Merc and save on the fuel and that hefty VED bill: "It can take my two kids on the back including panniers for beers and a little BBQ, and it offers loads of other options too. The battery gives you all the extra power you need and makes cycling so fun. I paid my deposit and took delivery the next day. It made me smile more than the Merc did, not just through performance but the fact it felt like I was cheating the system, but totally legally. What a winner."
He calls the GSD "the most useful thing I’ve ever, ever owned", and was also able to cart a cool box full of food and cases of iced coffee to sell at a music festival when supplies were running low. It's certainly high praise for the e-cargo bike if we've ever seen it, and of this particular bike our tester Dave was just as gushing in his review last year!
