Brose has announced its new Drive C city bike drive unit, which will be available on new e-bikes heading into 2019.
The new unit has been specifically designed to meet the needs of the urban and city e-biker, offering up continuous power assistance through 20-70rpm, up to a claimed 280 per cent of the rider’s input at 50nm of torque.
At the same time, it’ll adapt to rider pedalling inconsistency, so acceleration is smoothed out more linearly than you find with regular pedalling. There’s also an integrated pushing support feature that can operate up to speeds of 6km/h.
Housed in an aluminium shell, the Drive C can attach to any point around the bottom bracket, which Brose tells us allows city e-bike manufacturers far more freedom of design within their frames.
Additionally, we’re told that it run almost silently thanks to a Gates carbon-reinforced belt that insulates the sound, as well as vibrations from reaching the pedal. And, should the battery run out, Brose’s dual freewheel system will cut in to isolate the drive system, turning the e-bike into a regular pedal bike.
We’re looking forward to seeing the Brose Drive C appear on new bikes heading into 2019.
