How much do you want a new e-bike? If you're a glutton for punishment and really really want a quality one from Ampler, then you'll be pleased to know that they're giving away bikes to chosen candidates who complete a test ride of up to 1000km.
Last year's inaugural Ampler Challenge took place in July 2018, when Dutchman Alain Buffing completed an 800km journey from Amsterdam to Berlin over six days. Buffing hadn't prepared specifically for the ride, and the challenge was designed to demonstrate that e-bikes take away much of the physical and mental barriers of cycling, and that anyone can do it.
This year Ampler will open their challenge up to the wider public, the rules are that you have to live in Europe and the route has to be 'up to' 1000km long, and a minimum distance of 500km. Ampler will provide the lucky chosen ones with a bike, accommodation along the way and support, and if you finish the ride you get to keep the bike at the end of it!
Ampler are keen to promote the e-bike as a genuine green alternative to cars, even for long distances, citing that riding an electric bike results in a 12-fold reduction in C02 emissions per kilometre compared to a car.
Want to apply? You need to devise a suitably epic route on Komoot, Strava or Google Maps, and send a link or screenshot to Ampler for approval. You have to write an overview about yourself and why you want to complete the Ampler Challenge, and if you want to ride with a friend or relative write a bit about them too. Choose which Ampler bike you want for the challenge, and submit by the 26th May.
