Halfords have launched what they claim is the cheapest e-road bike in Europe. Dubbed the Crossroad, the bike is £999 and therefore well and truly Cycle to Work-friendly.
The retail giant do say this is "based on their research", but we've had a scour of the web too and are yet to find a bike that could be described as e-road for less cash. Despite its cheapness the spec ain't bad either, with a 310Wh / 9Ah battery that should provide up to 40 miles of range on a single charge, and recharges fully in six hours. the motor courtesy of Suntour is located in the rear hub, which will give you up to 250 watts of assistance up to 25km/h.
Gearing is Shimano's 9 speed with a Suntour Alloy 42T chainring, and you get reliable Tektro mechanical disc brakes to provide plenty of stopping power. 32mm Kenda tyres should make the Crossroad ideal for all-weather commuting - as will the pannier and mudguard mounts - and the frame is mad of lightweight alloy to bring the approximate weight down to 19kg.
The Crossroad is available to buy right now on the Halfords website here in three size options, with finance also available to spread the cost. Do you know of any e-road bikes that are cheaper? Do let us know in the comments if ourselves and Halfords have missed a trick... and what you think of the bike of course!
