Austrian kids’ bike firm, Woom, is launching an e-bikes for kids. The Woom Up is described as a, “superlight premium e-mountain bike with a child-friendly drive system for riders aged seven and up.”
This is not the first children’s e-bike we’ve featured here. Last month we covered the 180W Kent Torpedo which recently went on sale in the US.
We’ve also had a couple of e-balance bikes: the 100W IndyBikes Electric Balance Bike for 3-6-year-olds and the 250W Mondraker Grommy with sizes suitable for ages 3-8.
Woom is targeting 7-14-year-olds with its 24” Woom Up 5 and 26” Woom Up 6.
The bikes are built around the popular Fazua Evation mid-motor drive system, which offers 250W and 55Nm of torque.
Unlike an adult e-bike, however, assistance is limited to 20km/h. You get a 250Wh battery.
One of the main challenges when developing a kids’ e-bike is weight because batteries and motors don’t scale the same way that a frame does. The Woom Up 5 is around 15.8kg, while the Woom Up 6 is 16.6kg.
They come with 11-speed SRAM NX gears, with a 28T chain and an 11-42T rear cassette.
You also get a suspension fork and Promax disc brakes.
The Woom Up 5 is priced at €2,890 and the Woom Up 6 at €2,990.
